A wantaway Kaizer Chiefs defender is linked with two PSL sides ahead of the winter transfer window.

Chiefs look set to part ways with several players when the season ends like they did last season.

The club is already bolstering their squad with three new signings ahead of the 2023 /24 campaign. Mduduzi Mdantsane from Cape Town City, Given Msimango, who captains TS Galaxy and SuperSport United’s Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, have all signed for Chiefs.

AUSTIN DUBE EXPECTED TO LEAVE

Defender Austin Dube is the latest Kaizer Chiefs player expected to exit the Naturena-based outfit at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

The 30-year-old joined Amakhosi at the beginning of last season from Richards Bay, who were still campaigning in the Motsepe Foundation Championship in a cash transfer.

Indications are that the Soweto giants are contemplating the future of Dube. The player has failed to settle in at the team and has fallen down the pecking order, thus struggling for game time.

A source within the club told this publication that, at the moment, it’s not clear whether they will loan him out or release him from his contract.

“The team has almost made up their mind about Austin Dube. They want to release him at the end of the season. They feel he has struggled to settle at the team, so they are looking at other options for next season. However, it will depend on the negotiations because he still has another year remaining on his contract.

“He signed a three-year contract when he joined Amakhosi,” the source told SN24.

Dube’s contract will only expire on June 30 2024, which means he will either have to be sold, have his contract terminated by mutual consent or be loaned out for 12 months.

CLOSELY MONITORING DEVELOPMENTS

This season, Dube featured in only one DStv Premiership match. Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane prefers Edmilson Dove, Siyabonga Ngezana and Zitha Nkwinika in the centre-back role.

His former club Richard’s Bay, is believed to be closely monitoring the developments. TS Galaxy, whose defender Msimango joins Chiefs at the end of the season, is also eyeing him.

Dube previously played for The Rockets. Now it remains to be seen whether all will be agreed to and if Dube can move away from Chiefs in the coming months.
