Banyana Banyana star Jermaine Seoposenwe has issued an update about her injury ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup
Seoposenwe picked up an injury recently while on duty for her club FC Juarez Femenil, developing a narrative that she might not be ready for the showpiece.
She has now issued an update on social media to ease the nation’s fears, saying she didn’t rupture her Achilles but is suffering from tendinitis and that it is not as bad as first feared.
JERMAINE SEOPOSENWE EXPLAINS
“Regarding the rumours and articles surrounding my injury, I have not ruptured my Achilles,” Seoposenwe said.
“I am however suffering from some tendinitis. The medical staff at my team have advised me to undergo a treatment called ‘Percutaneous Micro-electrolysis’ to help with pain and facilitate healing in my tendon.
“The treatment basically requires me to not do much weight bearing exercises, especially running for one week and then I’ll gradually return to play based on how I am feeling.
“I want to get back as soon as I can because my team is at a crucial part in the season, and I would like to play my part in helping FC Juarez reach their first ever playoff.
“However, I am also fully aware of the World Cup on the horizon, which is why the medical team and myself will try to navigate through this period as best we can, as to avoid a serious long term injury.”
The opening match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup is taking place on 20 July 2023.
South Africa will participate in their second World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Banyana coach Desiree Ellis will be relieved to hear Seoposenwe’s injury isn’t as serious as initially reported.
The former SC Braga forward is one of Ellis’ key players, having played a pivotal role in the WAFCON in Morocco last year.
She is also one of the senior players in the team and losing her would have been a blow.
