A Bafana Bafana prospect is on cloud nine after scoring on his debut in the United Premier Soccer League [UPSL].
The exciting midfielder Lusanda Nyathi recently signed for Inter Wichita, a semi-professional team in the US.
Lusanda Nyathi scored Inter Wichita’s second goal in the 75th minute when they beat Dodge City Toros on Sunday morning.
A COUNTER-ATTACK
Centre-back Rory O’Connor scored the first goal for the ambitious side Inter Wichita.
For Nyathi, the debut goal is a step in the right direction, as he aims to join Njabulo Blom and Bongokuhle Hlongwane in Major League Soccer.
“The goal was amazing! We were on a counterattack, and the ball was played wide.
“My teammate, a central midfielder, received the ball on the edge of the box on the left-hand side from my point of view.
“He laid it off to me [I was in a more central position], and a defender came to close me down.
“I took a progressive touch and hit the ball with the outside of my foot, bending it around him, and it flew into the top corner.
“And I had a good feeling. Before it even went in, I was already celebrating and running to the corner flag with my teammates.
“The feeling was out of this world. I felt joy and relief. The goal sort of took away the anxieties of a debut.
THREE CRUCIAL POINTS
“It was good to get a goal at home in front of our fans, but most importantly, it secured the three points for us, putting us in a good position to start off our campaign.
“It really was a good way to seal an amazing team performance with three crucial points,” Nyathi said in an exclusive interview.

The 21-year-old believes his goal may have secured a permanent place for him on the team.
“Everyone was extremely happy for me. The coaching staff congratulated me, but I’m extremely happy and grateful that they gave me an opportunity to come on during an important game for us.
“I was glad that I added to the performance after the faith that was put in me by the coaches. They had an amazing game plan, and I was just happy to contribute to it while bringing home the win,” he added.
