Kaizer Chiefs starlet Mduduzi Shabalala has made a bold Nedbank Cup declaration ahead of their quarterfinal berth against Royal AM.

Amakhosi face their bogey side Royal AM in Chatsworth in Durban on Sunday. Kick off is 18H00.

ESTABLISHING HIMSELF IN THE FIRST TEAM

Shabalala, an academy graduate of Chiefs, is fast establishing himself in the club’s first team.

“I’m feeling good and very excited about playing in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal,” he told the club’s website.

“We are preparing very well for the encounter on Sunday. We will try to do our best. As you know, we didn’t do much in the last game we played against Marumo (Gallants), so we are going to push as much as possible to get to the next round.”

He said they had been analysing their recent games and believed they could exploit some weaknesses. He pointed out their similarities to Chiefs.

“We saw their weaknesses and their strong points. We’ll try to take advantage of their weakness because they are a good ball-playing team, just like us, so we’ll try to do our best to score as many goals as we can,” he said.

The 19-year-old went on to state how they want to change the trajectory at the club by reaching the Nedbank Cup final and winning it.

“We are the ones who are playing, and we are trying our level best so that we can get to the final and win the Nedbank Cup and put the Club back where it belongs. The commitment, the fight and the desire is there for us to go all the way,” he boldly declared.

He begged the club’s fans in Durban to come in their numbers to back the team. He is convinced that with the support of the club’s faithful followers, they “will things around”.

“They help us to push more than the opponents because of their voices in the stands. They can help us turn things around and change the situation of a game, so I’m begging, please come in numbers and help us try to win the Nedbank Cup,” he said.

Chiefs are left with five fixtures in the DStv Premiership and are pushing for a second-place finish. They want to return to the CAF Champions League, where they reached the final in 2021.
