Motsepe Foundation Championship side Venda Football Academy (VFA) midfielder Tatenda Tavengwa is attracting interest from DStv Premiership clubs.

A source close to the Limpopo-based outfit said PSL clubs are tracking Tavengwa and are keen to sign the midfielder.

The former Harare City midfielder has been impressive in his debut season in the South African second tier.  He has shown elements of handling the demands that potentially await him in the PSL.

Tavengwa has been a regular at VFA, which has gone through three coaching changes so far this season.

“Tatenda Tavengwa is wanted by clubs in the PSL after his performance against Orlando Pirates in the round of 16 Nedbank Cup.

“He has been impressive for VFA this season. He has scored goals against some of the big clubs in the National First Division, the likes of Polokwane City,” the source said.

“We have been approached by three PSL clubs who have been following his progress. We can’t divulge the names of the teams at the moment, but we have agreed to start negotiations at the end of the season.”

Tavengwa is a steady midfielder, confident on the ball and can play in both defensive and attacking roles.

After graduating from the Zimbabwe National Under 23 side, Tavengwa featured for The Warriors at the 2021 COSAFA Cup and was a member of the CHAN team.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old central midfielder’s existing contract with the Joel Masutha-coached side runs until June 30, 2024, after signing a two-year contract following his move to VFA in July 2022 from CAPS United.

VFA currently sit in 12th place on the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings with 30 points after 26 games after spending the better part of the campaign in the relegation zone.

Tavengwa will get another chance to make an impression this Sunday when VFA visit Uthongathi at Princess Magogo Stadium in Kwamashu, KwaZulu-Natal.
